RADIOLOGY Single Film Retrograde Umbilical Aortography in the Diagnosis of Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome with Aortic Atresia

چکیده
Single film retrograde umbilical aortography was used successfully in confirming the diagnosis of hypoplastic left heart in three neonates. The method involves injecting Renografin 75% (1.25 cc/kg body weight) into the umbilical artery catheter according to the following sequence. First, the tip of the catheter is positioned at the level of the ductus arteriosus. The infant heart beats are then counted from one to three. The contrast media injection is begun

متن کاملAtresia of the ascending aorta in hypoplastic left heart syndrome.
T he spectrum of hypoplastic left heart syndrome spans a continuum from borderline hypoplasia to extreme forms with retrograde blood flow from the ductus arteriosus to the cerebral and coronary arteries. A male neonate, born at 37 weeks' gestation, had an antenatal diagnosis of hypoplastic left heart syndrome. Postnatal echocardiographic assessment confirmed the diagnosis of hypoplastic left he...

In order to establish a normal, in-series circulation physiologically, very different from the circulation in parallel which the children are born with single ventricle, doctors Fontan and Baudet (2) and Kreutzer (3) concurrently developed surgical treatment of patients with tricuspid atresia to achieve a passive flow through the pulmonary vascular bed (1). Management strategies for patients wi...

Aortic valve atresia is a common feature of hypoplastic left heart syndrome, which consists of various degrees of underdevelopment of the left ventricle aorta complex; nevertheless it can also be associated with a large ventricular septal defect (VSD) and a rather developed left ventricle. Atresia of the aortic valve prevents antegrade blood flow from the left ventricle to the ascending aorta, ...
متن کاملMitral Stenosis and Aortic Atresia--A Risk Factor for Mortality After the Modified Norwood Operation in Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome.
BACKGROUND There are conflicting reports regarding the importance of mitral stenosis and aortic atresia as a risk factor for Norwood mortality. This study reviews outcomes of this anatomic subgroup at our institution and examines the utility of preoperative cardiac catheterization and its correlation with clinical outcomes and pathology findings. METHODS This is a single-center, retrospective...
